Friends

A couple of days ago me and my best friends had a girl's night out, celebrating a birthday. As the two of them chatted away I looked at them quietly, noticing how grown up we all are. We’re no longer teenagers sitting on a bed in one of our rooms, loudly talking about what we’re going to wear on our Friday night out and which boys we flirted with last week. We’re sophisticatedly dressed young ladies, sitting in a chic bar, drinking wine from proper wine glasses and chatting about adult stuff.

I don’t think we even see how much we’ve changed over the last ten years, mainly because we were changing and growing up together, confronting problems side by side, always having each other’s back. We aren't called trefoil for nothing.

Sometimes our friend's paths separate from our own and when we see them we immediately notice how much they have changed. A few weeks ago I met an old friend; in the five years since we've finished high school we saw each other only half a dozen times and it’s always nice catching up with her. Each time we meet I see how she’s changed her way of thinking, dressing, talking and so on. She has grown up and I like who she has become. I know I’ve changed too, perhaps much more than she did, and I truly hope that she also likes who I’ve become.

In recent years I've met a handful of people with whom I had developed a friendship; those relationships are somehow fragile in comparison to the longstanding ones. They are like a new-born baby, in need of more frequent attention. Just like we have to support a new-born's head because he is not yet able to hold it up by himself, we also need to take special care of our newly formed friendships. When we talk to someone new we usually carefully choose our words, we think twice before we say something simply because we want to make an impression.

Old friends don’t need to be impressed, they truly know us; sometimes they know us better than we would admit. And that’s the reason why those longstanding friendships are the most precious; those are the ones that are often neglected and taken for granted but should be given special attention because true friends are as rare as gold and worth much more.

As I watched my two Musketeers, drinking wine and smiling, I realised how lucky I am to have not only them, but many other friends, old and new.

Love letter for a friend

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." (Anais Nin)

Friendships are the most fragile relationships in the whole world. A friend is not obligated to be a friend to someone; it’s his or her own choice to be someone’s friend and to stand by his or her side no matter what happens.

Friendships are fragile, I’ve experienced this many times.

I’ve also experienced this very recently; I thought I've lost one of my best friends. I thought I’ve lost a person who was by my side each and every day for the last eight years.

She was by my side in good times and bad, in sickness and in health.
When six years ago a doctor told me I have a chronic disease she was by my side.
When I broke up with three of my ex-boyfriends she was by my side.
When I met Mr Starlight she was one of the first people I’ve told that I’m madly in love.
When I was accepted to the university she was by my side and she was sincerely happy for me.

I’m grateful and happy that I have such a good and loyal friend. I’m grateful and happy that I have more than one good friend for whom I am sure will be by my side no matter what happens.

We had a fight and I was afraid I’ve lost her. But our friendship is stronger than that. We mean too much to each other to let such an important and loving relationship fail.

She is by my side in good times and bad, in sickness and in health; I know this for sure.

I hope that You also know that I’m here for you, no matter what.
I promise to be true to You in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love You and honour You all the days of my life.

A list of five things I enjoy doing every day

1. Cuddling with my boyfriend. My day without cuddling with him, even if just for a couple of minutes, is not perfect. If I have a bad day or anything goes wrong in my life, he is the one who makes me feel better. Just by hugging him I get to know that everything’s going to be all right.

2. Talking to my friends. I don’t see my girlfriends every day but I can call them anytime. I enjoy talking to them about different things whether it’s something important or just a chit chat.

3. Drinking tea. Lately I’ve been drinking a lot of tea, and I feel that something’s missing if I don’t get a cup of hot black tea with a bit of milk.

4. Sleeping. I love sleeping; I used to sleep ten or more hours a day. I don’t sleep as much anymore but I still enjoy being in the warm shelter of my blanket and it’s even better if my honey is hugging me. That makes my sleep perfect.

5. Writing a blog. I only started writing my blog about 2 weeks ago, but it became a big part of me and my life. Lately I didn’t have a hobby or anything I would do for my soul, I had (I still have…) a crisis in my life and writing a blog makes me feel better. Knowing that there are people out there who read it and write comments about it makes me feel even better and I thank you all for that from the bottom of my heart! :*
